Nigerians hail Ahmed Musa for N2m lifeline to taxi-driving ex-Super Eagles star, Kingsley Obiekwu

Kingsley Obiekwu was a member of the Super Eagles 1996 Atlanta Olympics team that won gold medal for Nigeria

Nigerians have expressed admiration and appreciation to Super Eagles Captain, Ahmed Musa, for the donation of N2 million to Kingsley Obiekwu, a member of the Atlanta ’96 Olympics Gold medal-winning Dream Team.

Kingsley Obiekwu had recently opened up on his financial struggles especially how he uses his only car for commercial transport to sustain his family.

Many Nigerians say they have seen the ex-international in a motor park in Enugu conveying passengers.

The 47-year-old former defender fondly referred to as “Shagari”, played for Rangers International FC, Enugu, Udoji United and CSKA Moscow.

Confirming the donation, several associates of the former CSKA Moscow forward announced the development on Twitter.

Ahmed Musa also liked several posts where his kind gesture to Kingsley Obiekwu was shared.

One of the posts reads: “Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa has donated N2 million to support 1996 Olympic Gold Medalist, Kingsley Obiekwu. Obiekwu was reported to be working as a driver in Enugu. Obiekwu has confirmed the alert & cash support from Ahmed Musa.”

Hailing the philanthropic gestures of Ahmed Musa, many Nigerians commended  his generosity and kind-hearted spirit.

Investigative Journalist, Fisayo Soyombo tweeted: “Thank you Ahmed Musa for that N2million donation to Kingsley Obiekwu! But more thanks to Okwuluora, the broadcast journalist without whom we wouldn’t have known Obiekwu’s sordid condition.”

Sport journalist Temisan Okomi opined: “Ahmed Musa, in my opinion, is THE best Nigerian footballer ever. Always ready with open arms & pockets. I pray his investments don’t fail him & he grows extremely old in financial contentment. A true great.”

@TheAfrican_Hub tweeted: “This is an appreciation tweet to Super Eagles Captain of Nigeria Ahmed Musa who donated N2Million to Former Nigerian International Kingsley Obiekwu.”
