Football pundit and former England striker, Micheal Owen, has questioned some of Arsenals’ transfer decisions saying they ‘messed up’ in some of the dealings.

Mikel Arteta fell out with Gunners’ former captain, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and stripped him of the captaincy, before banishing him from the first team. The striker, however, found an escape route to Barcelona in the January window.

Before then, Arsenal sold their highest paid player Mesut Ozil to the Turkish side, Fenerbahçe, after the midfielder also fell out with the gaffer, Arteta. He ended up receiving huge weekly wages for a long time without kicking a ball.

Micheal Owen, while analysing Arsenals’ transfer policy, condemned the two cases and admitted that the handling of contracts of big-name players at the Emirates makes him ‘cringe’.

He said, “You look at what they gave Mesut Ozil and never played for ages and ages, then they go and give Aubameyang loads of money again and falls out and gets moved on.

“With their big players and big signings, the big renegotiations of contracts, they’ve really messed it up in recent seasons.”

Arsenal narrowly beat Wolves 1-0 on Thursday night, courtesy of Gabriel’s first-half strike.

The win helped the Gunners leapfrog Manchester United into 5th in the Premier League table.
