Nigerias’ defeat to Tunisia at the rounds of 16 and Ghanas’ humiliating exit at the group stages of this year’s African Cup of Nations (AFCON) has made the World Cup qualifying encounter between them a must-win.

Ghana and Nigeria face each other in a double-header encounter in March and only one of the two teams will join the other four African representatives in Qatar World Cup in 2022.

Former Nigeria striker, Jonathan Akpoborie while talking to Complete Sports said the Super Eagles are capable of beating the Black Stars of Ghana and clinching the World Cup ticket.

He also said that despite the disappointing loss against the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia, Nigeria remains the favourite to pick the slot, saying they were unlucky to have lost the game.

“I don’t really think Nigerians should be worried about the Super Eagles’ chances of defeating the Black Stars of Ghana in the World Cup playoff.

“This particular game will bring out the best performance from the players and I know they won’t disappoint.

“Their performance against Tunisia should not be used to judge the players; sometimes a team plays well and may be unfortunate to score goals.”

The Super Eagles, after earning maximum points at the group stages, were knocked out in the Round of 16 by Tunisia after losing 1-0 on Sunday.
