Obasanjo decorates son, Adeboye, with Brigadier General rank

Adeboye Obasanjo was once shot by Boko Haram when a Lieutenant Colonel during an operation in Baza in Adamawa State.

A son of the former President Olusegun Obasanjo, is now a Brigadier General.

The son, Adeboye Obasanjo wore his brigadier general rank today, and his father, the former President Olusegun Obasanjo, decorated him with the rank.

Obasanjo retired in the Army as a General and his son, Adeboye Obasanjo, is now three ranks away from becoming like his proud father.

The retired General decorated his son, Adeboye Obasanjo, with the new rank after the recent Nigerian Army (NA) promotion.

According to the Daily Post, Obasanjo was accorded the honour to decorate his son even though the decoration is usually done by the spouse and a serving superior officer.

The ceremony was held at the Nigerian Army Engineers (NAE) Headquarters in Bonny Camp, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The former President was accompanied by the Towulade of Akinale Kingdom of Egbaland, Oba Olufemi Ogunleye.

Adeboye Obasanjo, an Engineering Corps member, holds two Master’s degrees and other qualifications. He served in many operations and formations in Nigeria and abroad.

On September 8, 2014, the senior officer, then a Lieutenant Colonel, was shot by Boko Haram in Baza in Adamawa State. He was hit in the leg.

Some soldiers under the platoon he commanded died in the attack. Adeboye had been deployed to the battlefield from 3 Division in Jos, Plateau State.

According to reports at the time, the terrorists attacked a platoon led by Adeboye Obasanjo, killing 24 soldiers.

At the time of the incident, Major Gen JS Zaruwa, Colonel Victor Ebhaleme who serves as the Brigade Commander of the 23rd Army Brigade in Yola and Lieutenant Agwu were all together advancing towards Michika when Boko Haram fighters ambushed them and unleashed the deadly attack on the soldiers.

According to reports, the army also lost an armored tank to the militants.
