The Policeman attached to a Davido is supposed to provide security protection for him, not become his car wash

A fully kitted policeman has been spotted in a viral video washing the Rolls Royce Cullinan car of singer, Davido.

The policeman was spotted in the background of the viral video diligently washing the Rolls Royce while Davido makes a short speech about an event he would be performing at that evening.

The policeman in the viral video appears to be preparing the N200million Rolls Royce to convey Davido to the event.

The video appears to be a deliberate stunt by Davido to show off his influence where his car is being washed by a policeman.

The video which has gone viral sparked reactions from Nigerians who expressed shock at what money can do in Nigeria. One @shattaghananet says: “Make money my people. Watch how policeman in uniform washes Davido’s Rolls-Royce Cullinan.”

Policemen attached to Very Important Persons (VIP) are supposed to provide security protection for them, not become one of their errand boys. But In Nigeria, the police have been reduced to handbag carriers and car washers.

In 2016, the Police Service Commission (PSC) warned all police officers on escort duty with Very Important Persons (VIPs) to stop carrying their handbags and umbrellas as such practice was an insult to the Nigeria Police Force. The PSC at the time did not envisage that policemen would also become car washers.

“You will all agree with me that this issue of policemen carrying handbags and umbrellas for VIPs has generated much uproar and even condemnation as it is capable of eroding the esteem of members of the NPF,” notes Mike Okiro, Chairman of the commission, at a press conference in Abuja in 2016.

Mike Okiro could not have imagined that a VIP like Davido who could hire drivers and car washers, would rather prefer policemen to do it for him, or the policemen would volunteer to drive and wash his vehicles.

Davido claimed that he earned $23 million (N8.2billion) last year doing performances and record sales. The huge income for the showbiz crooner may be the reason the policeman attached to him forgot his core duties.

But the PSC of 2016 said: “To stem the tide, we have worked out a blueprint of the class of VIPs that should enjoy the privilege of attaching police officers to provide VIP protection with their specific duties clearly spelt out. The matter is awaiting the consent of the relevant authorities before we can start its implementation.”

Obviously, the blueprint that spells out specific duties for police officers attached to VIPs, was never printed.
