On Sunday, December 5, travelers heading to Lagos from Sokoto, were intercepted by bandits and burnt alive. The Sokoto State government said those killed were 23. Other accounts put the casualty count at 40.

Zainab Ahmed Idris and some of her colleagues in the North decided to raise their voices against the killings that have become almost normal in the region which rarely protests against Buhari.

News of her arrest first emerged on Twitter with reports from other activists revealing that Zainab Ahmed Nasir was invited by the Department of State Services (DSS) and detained.

Lawyer and activist, Abdul Mahmud, famously known as Great Oracle, tweeted via his Twitter handle, @AbdulMahmud01: “I condemn the SSS arrest and detention of Zainab Ahmad. Those who should be in detention are the bandits, terrorists, including the repentant ones, who’ve made northern Nigeria the killing field. #FreeZainab.”

Buhari, the notorious dictator, loves to violate fundamental human rights of citizens. He has also failed to secure Nigeria.”

Journalist, Aliyu Dahiru, tweeting with @Aliyussufiy also said: “JUST IN: DSS operatives have ‘invited’ Zainab Ahmad Nasir, one of the conveners of peaceful protest against violent insecurity in northern Nigeria, over her participation in the protest today. The protest is expected to continue across northern Nigeria tomorrow.”
