Juventus went into the game on 12 points and top of the group, but their annihilation took the home side ahead of them on superior goals difference.

Trevor Chalobah opened the floodgate of goals for the home side in the 25th minute when he latched onto an assist from Antonio Rudiger to make it 1-0 to the home side.

Reece James doubled Chelseas’ advantage in the 56th minute after a poor play from Juventus Dutch defender, Matthijs de Ligt.

Callum Hudson-Odoi scored 2 minutes later from a pass from Ruben Loftus-Cheek to make it 3-0 to the home side.

The Blues were not done, as Timo Werner scored the fourth goal after an assist from Hakim Ziyech to end the game 4-0 in favor of Chelsea.

It is the Italian club’s heaviest defeat in the Champions League and demonstrated Chelsea’s status as a serious contender to retain the trophy they won against Premier League rivals Manchester City in May.

In the other game, Zenit St. Petersburg scored a last-minute penalty to force Malmo to a 1-1 draw. With the result, the visitors are now the favorites to earn a Europa League spot from the group.

The outcome also means Chelsea and Juventus have qualified for the rounds of 16 from Group H and the outstanding game is to determine the group leader.
