Two more bodies have been recovered from the rubbles of the collapsed building on Gerrard Road, Ikoyi, Lagos State.

The bodies were brought out in body bags around 11 am and put inside a van of the Ministry of Health.

It is however unclear if more bodies were recovered because the vans moved into the premises before driving off much later.

No one was allowed inside the premises except rescue workers and some government officials.

This brings the total number of fatality so far to 22. A total of nine persons have been brought out alive from the rubbles.

An actual number of people trapped in the collapsed uncompleted structure remains unknown

The 21-storey building collapsed on Monday afternoon.

Meanwhile, heads are beginning to roll over the tragedy.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tuesday suspended the General Manager of the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), Gbolahan Oki.

A statement by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, said the State Government will set up an independent panel to probe the collapse of the building.

Members of the panel will be drawn from the Nigeria Institute of Architects (NIA), Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (NITP), Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE) and other professional bodies.

“It will independently investigate the remote and immediate causes of the incident and make recommendations on how to prevent future occurrence. The investigation is not part of the internal probe already being conducted by the government,” the statement said.
