Oba Agboola’s appointment as Onirun of Irun excites Adeyeye

Onirun of Irun Akoko throne gets a new occupant after being vacant for nearly 13 years. Commendations have been pouring for the new king

A Councillor and Deputy majority leader of the House in Akoko North West Local government area of Ondo State, Adeyeye Apeke Kehinde, has joined other eminent people of the state to felicitate with Oba Samuel Bayode Agboola, Akuulojuorun II on his appointment as Onirun of Irun Akoko.

The stool became vacant after the demise of late Oba Williams Adeusi 13 years ago

Ondo State Executive Council had on Monday approved and ratified the selection of the traditional ruler in conformity with the provision of extant law.

The Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Donald Ojogo, in a statement, said the kingmakers of Irun selected Prince Agboola and presented him to the government for approval.

The new monarch was said to have been cleared as he has no issues before the State Executive Council.

Adeyeye who is representing Odo Irun/Oyinmo Ward 8 in Akoko North West Constituency 2 in a statement said “With the illustrious personality of the new Onirun of Irun, a fertile record of selfless and community services, vast experience, royal carriage and sterling leadership qualities, I firmly believe ‎his ascension to the throne of his forefathers mark the glorious beginning of a glowing chapter in the tradition and culture of Irun Akoko land.

“I pray that the ascension of the new monarch to the revered stool of Onirun stool will herald prosperity to his subjects and development to Yoruba nation and the entire country.”

She, therefore, commended the State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for giving approval to the selection of Oba Samuel Bayode Agboola as Onirun of Irun Akoko.

Background

The throne of Onirun of Irun has been vacant since November 2011 after the demise of Oba Williams Adeusi, who was from Oke Omowa Ruling House. Two royalties had while trying to secure the throne after Oba Adeusi passed also went to the great beyond. The late Oba’s son, late Prince Adeusi died in Ipebi, during the installation rites in 2015; and a regent died some months after she was appointed in 2015.
