NWFL wants tougher sanctions for withdrawals

-

Representatives of clubs participating in the Premier and Pro cadres of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) have proposed tougher sanctions for teams withdrawing from the league during the season.

At different interactive sessions in Benin City and Lokoja, the club representatives viewed strongly the penchant of some clubs to throw the League into confusion by withdrawing midstream while some are in the habit of failing to honour matches.

According to the Executive Secretary of the NWFL, Mr. Ayo Abdulrahaman, the sessions in Benin City and Lokoja were held as sensitization programmes on proposed rules and players’ contracts.

In Benin City, the club representatives canvassed that each club should make a deposit of N1 million to the League as a measure against withdrawal of clubs during the season, and that clubs that fail to honour a match should be fined the sum of N500,000, while the match should be rescheduled. The defaulting club should also bear the cost of organization of the rescheduled match to the home team before the new date.

In Lokoja, the representatives agreed that participating clubs should write a letter of undertaking that they would honour their league matches throughout the season. They also resolved that any club that fails to honour a match during the Premier League season should be fined the sum of N500,000, while a club in the Pro division that fails to honour a match should be made to pay the sum of N250,000.
