Umuahia Premier Club has kicked off its 2016 free medical treatment to the people of the five clans of Umuahia – Umuopara, Ohuhu, Ibeku, Ubakala and Olokoro. The club’s National President, Mr. Sunny Osuagwu, OON, flagged off the programme at Mbara Ogbodi-Ukwu in Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia State at the weekend.

He disclosed that the club organises free medical treatment to the less-privileged in Umuahia every two years.

Osuagwu, however, explained that the club was not a political party, rather an association of people of like minds with the aim to serve humanity, support the less-privileged, and give scholarship to indigent students in Umuahia.

He pointed out that government alone cannot provide all the needs of the people at the grassroots; hence their gesture.

Besides, he called on other wealthy people of Umuahia and clubs to emulate the Premier Club. The national president therefore charged the health officers engaged for the exercise to ensure that vulnerable people were given the basic health care.

Also, the Ezeship candidate for Chime na Agbara Autonomous Community and a member of the club, Chief Obinna Ulocha, commended Umuahia Premier Club for its show of love to the people of Umuahia.

Ulocha said he had personally provided 25 federal jobs and 45 scholarship to the members of his community, noting that if others should do same, Umuahia would develop more than it is now.

Responding, the coordinator of the free medical care in Ogbodi Ukwu, Chief Emeka Okezie, thanked the club in its effort to touch lives in Umuahia and urged i to sustain the programme.
