Overzealous National Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) director-general, Armstrong Idachaba, has been fired, few days after ordering broadcast stations to deactivate their Twitter handle.
The order for broadcast stations to deactivate their Twitter handle was not part of President Muhammadu Buhari’s ban on Twitter.
Idachaba also threatened broadcast stations with sanctions if they sourced content from Twitter, another overzealousness of the sacked director-general.
Under Idachaba, already financially struggling broadcast stations were routinely slammed with heavy monetary fines.
No reason was given for his sack. In his stead, Balarabe Ilelah has been appointed.
Minister of information and culture, Lai Mohammed, said in a statement on Friday, June 11 that Ilelah’s appointment is for a tenure of five years in the first instance.
