IGP orders police to deal with June 12 protesters

The Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, has  ordered the 36 States and Federal Capital Territory Commissioners of Police to deal decisively with anybody that threatens Nigeria security and peace on June 12 and beyond.

Some Nigerians are gearing to protest on June 12, Nigeria’s newly declared democracy day. .

In a meeting with officers of Nigerian Police  Force in Abuja, Usman Alkali Baba, ordered his men to deal with anybody who tries to use the June 12 protest as an avenue to forment trouble and threaten security of lives and properties of Nigerians.

According to the IGP, June 12 planned protest is few days away but the Nigerian police force are trying to make sure that the country witnesses an exercise that is free from any form of violence.

He stressed the need for the police officers throughout the country to remain civil with any citizen who maintains law and order during the exercise.

He however ordered police officers across the country to ensure that they don’t hesitate to deal with anyone who attempts to break the laws of the land during the June 12 protest. 

He also admonished police officers who unlawfully impound people’s vehicles and keep them at the police station. He urged the Commissioners to ensure that when they go back to their various state commands, they should get rid of any vehicle which is being kept at different police stations across the country.

The IGP said that he will make sure that his directive is obeyed by all the police commands in the country, adding that he will initiate a tour across all the police commands of the federation to monitor compliance.Usman Alkali Baba, said that he will deal with any police station that refuses to get rid of all impounded vehicles if he finds out that impounded vehicles are still being kept in the premises of such police station.
