The Non-Academic Staff of Educational and Allied Institutions (NASU), has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to extend the retirement age of its members from age 60 to 65 and service year from 35 to 40.

The union in a three-day protest at Alausa said that what is good for the Jews is also good for the Gentiles.

Lagos State NASU chairman, Comrade Igbasanmi Dennis at the protest, said that teachers are not the only workers in  SUBEB, but there are other groups which are the Non Teaching Staffs.

He explained while teachers are busy providing academics for the future of the leaders of this country, they also take care of administrative and do other jobs. He said the Non-Teaching Staff shouldn’t be neglected in allocations.

He said: “We need better incentives too. Government policy must not create discriminations, rather, it should provide unity. The primary school system and other school systems should be put in place to provide this unity. But with this discriminatory policy of the government, that means the system is going to be destroyed. We know that when it is signed and becomes a law, it is going to boil down to the State and if Non-Teaching Staff is not included now, then it will become an issue.  That is why we are going around to speak to the authority to this level to International. They must remind them that we are who compliments the jobs of the teachers”.

Reacting to the protest, SUBEB Chairman, Hon., Alawunye King, pledge his support and promised to mention their matter at the House of Assembly for public hearing.

Stating that most of the issues raised are important for everyone’s development. ” In Lagos State, we are proactive, we will not come out blue and black. We are sincere. We commend the peaceful protest. The House of Assembly is your house where you can lay your grievances and we support you,” he said.
