The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has grilled the Cross River state commissioner for environment, Mfon Bassey.
The commissioner was interrogated by the anti-graft agency over alleged financial impropriety in the state, according to a report by an online newspaper, Premium Times.
According to the report, Bassey was said to have been picked up from his residence in Calabar, Thursday, by some EFCC operatives over alleged “shady deals” with persons linked to top officials of the Cross River State government.
The newspaper said the EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwajaren confirmed the interrogation of Bassey but claimed:“It is not an arrest, he was merely invited based on a petition.”
The report said the commissioner for Information in the state, Asu Okang, said he was not aware of the EFCC’s invitation to Mr Bassey.
