Kano Hisbah decrees Black Friday immoral

-

Black Friday, the shopping opportunity in November that allows companies lower the prices of goods in order to have them cleared by buyers, has been decreed to be immoral by the Kano State Hisbah Board.

In Kano, the Black Friday would not be happening as the Hisbah Board has prohibited it, and warned a radio station, Cool FM, against promoting the shopping event.

Cool FM has been running promotion of the event for the event, which would have commenced early morning of today, Friday November 27.

In a letter to the radio station, the Kano Hisbah Board said Friday was a holy day in Islam and since the demography of Kano residents is largely Muslim who view Friday as a holy day, the event would not be allowed to take place.

The Hisbah board warned that its men, known as the Hisbah brigade would enforce the ban against the Black Friday and the promotion of the event by the radio station.

The letter explained that the Hisbah brigade would be mounting surveillance in Kano state to forestall any likely breakdown of moral conducts.

Black Friday usually affords ordinary folks the opportunity to purchase stuff they ordinarily would be unable to afford at a giveaway price, especially electronics which sometimes could be discounted by 50 per cent.
