Traditional rulers’ll be held responsible for violence in their domains – Al-Makura

Governor Umaru Tanko Al–Makura of Nasarawa State has warned that henceforth, government will hold traditional rulers and other stakeholders responsible for any outbreak of violence in their respective communities.

Al-Makura who handed down the warning in a statement by his media aide, Ahmed Tukur, said that government is highly disturbed with the protracted communal violence in Udeni Gida, Udeni Magaji and other surrounding villages in Nasarawa local government area of the state.

He said: “Government will continue to ensure inclusiveness in its approach in ensuring peace in communities across the state, which will involve all traditional rulers and stakeholders who will be held responsible in the event of breakdown of law and order in their respective areas.”

He stressed that government will not fold its arms and allow individuals or groups cause disharmony that will lead to the loss of lives and property without recourse to the law.

The governor added that government will evacuate cattle from areas which do not belong to the local residents and warned farmers to desist from taking laws into their hands.

He revealed further that government has concluded plans to create cattle routes across the state to prevent farmers/herdsmen’s clash, warning that anybody caught poisoning cows or killing them will be dealt with.

He explained that government will assist communities affected by the recent violence in Udeni Gida, Udeni Magaji, Kpana and surrounding villages to return to their places of abode.
