Diligent investigation will expose Lekki shooters, says Falana

Human rights activist and lawyer  Femi Falana has said that no responsible government can deny that people were not killed at Lekki toll gate when they have not properly conducted an investigation.

The Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) who made the statement during an interview earlier today on Arise TV, accused the government of not protecting the young protesters.
He said thugs were also hired to attack and disrupt the process, but when that did not work, the army was moved in, which is what has caused more damage.

According to him, section 94 of the electoral act which was amended in March 27, 2015 provides that during protests, the police shall provide adequate security so as to prevent the so called hoodlums from hijacking the process.

“We are going to expose those who killed our young ones. We have already identified the barrack where the soldiers came from”, the erudite lawyer assured Nigerians.

“You are going to have riots in countries where the Rule of Law is not allowed to be institutionalised. A riot is the language of the unheard. The #EndSars campaign was totally unnecessary if the government had taken the Nigerian people seriously over years of complaints concerning the unit”, he added.

Falana appealed to the authorities to learn how to manage crisis in order not to fuel tension in the country, citing that it is not the first time this is happening.

He went back memory lane, stating that in 2015, soldiers allegedly killed 347 shiites, mostly women and children in Zaria over traffic offence, saying they wanted to assassinate the chief of Army staff, General Tukur Buratai.
He added that they were buried in an unmarked grave with no proper forensic examination or consolation to the affected families, calling it the highest crime against humanity.

The learned activist argued that the instrument of power and statutory bodies that ought to have taken up these matters are disabled. And that is why the country currently has such problems on her hands.

He also blamed the ensuing unrest and looting all over the country as the negligence of the government
