A Lagos gym was bustling with aerobic and other walkout exercises on September 20 when a 20-year-old unemployed man, Uchenna Ebere, sneaked into the gym to steal clothes and shoes worth N80,000.
He, however, escaped with the loot. But unknown to him, he was caught by the Close Circuit Television camera inside the gym when carrying out the criminal activities.
On Wednesday, the police brought Ebere before a Magistrates’ Court in Yaba. He was arraigned for allegedly stealing clothes and shoes.

Sgt. Godwin Oriabure, who is the police prosecutor, said Ebere stole the items on September 20, at No. 40, Tejuosho road, Surulere, Lagos.
The police prosecutor said Ebere sneaked into the gym when walkout and other aerobic exercises were going on and stole stole six pairs of shoes, three jerseys and four towels, all worth N80, 000.
The police prosecutor said Ebere has,however, sold off the items he stole from the gym.
He argued that Ebere’s crime contravened the revised provisions of Section 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015 which stipulates a three-year jail term for offenders.
The Magistrate, A.O Salawu, gave Ebere bail in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties in like sum who must be responsible individuals and reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed with evidence of three years’ tax payment to Lagos State Government.
The case was adjourned until October 12.
