The National Assembly has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure that credible election is conducted in the October 10 Governorship poll in Ondo state.
The Chairman, Senate Committee on INEC, Senator Ibrahim Gaya who made the plea while on assessment visit to the Commission’s office in Akure, said a level playing ground should be allowed during the election.
“I want INEC in Ondo state to take a cue from the peaceful and transparent conduct of the governorship election in Edo State,” he stressed
He, however, expressed concern on the three local government areas with high number of people who are yet to collect their permanent voter card, PVCs.
Gana further urged INEC to purchase extra smart card readers in view of the fire incident that gutted over five thousand card readers at the commission’s office in Akure.
In his welcome address, the Ondo state INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Ambassador Rufus Akeju, said the commission was prepared for a free fair and acceptable election in the state’s October 10 Gubernatorial election.
Akeju assured that necessary arrangements had been put in place for a hitch free governorship election on October 10.
