In a bid to have streams of sustainable livelihoods for the indigent and job seekers in Akoko land, more than 2,000 of the people have been trained in Skill Acquisition.
The beneficiaries of the programme were also empowered with cash to alleviate their immediate suffering and help them get on their feet on their chosen trade.
The programme which was organized by the Convener of Democratic Networks for Aketi, (DNA), Rear Admiral Samuel Ilesanmi Alade (Rtd) in his home town, Oyin Akoko in Akoko North West Local government area of the state, was meant to make the people self-reliant and less-dependent on the government.
The participants, who were mostly youths and job seekers of the area acquired training free of charge in the areas of Cosmetology Soap and Cream making, Leather work, and Ankara Craft, Cake and Confectioneries and Makeup and Gele Tying. The training was done under the supervision and tutelage of experienced facilitators from AFSE skill entrepreneur, Lagos
Alade, while speaking at the end of the training which last for ten days said the programme had prepared the youths to be self-reliant to adequately face the future as the leaders of tomorrow.
He advised the participants to take advantage of the opportunity seriously.
They were offered certificates, financial and material support which will assist them to practice the skill they have acquired at the training.
He promised to extend the gesture beyond Akoko in the subsequent program.
Alade however used the occasion to canvas votes for Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu in the forthcoming October 10 governorship election in the state saying that more dividends of democracy awaits them if Akeredolu is re-elected.
The Chairman of Akoko Northwest Local Government, Elder Ayodele Akande thanked the sponsor of the programme, Rear Admiral Alade Rtd for the gesture and promised to register the trainees in the council.
An award of RURAL WOMEN EMPOWERMENT AWARD was bestowed on Alade by the women organisation represented by Dr chief (Mrs) Osadahun.
Present at the occasion are Kabiyesi the Oloyin of Oyin Akoko, the coordinator, Democratic Networks for Aketi, Prince Dayo Bello, Dr (Mrs) Osadahun, Chairman of the coordinators, Hon Aiyegbusi and the media team, Democratic Networks for Aketi.
