Headies: Up-and-coming talents get shot at fame

-

From November 2 to December 2, 2015, members of the public have the chance to nominate talented up-and-coming talents to perform onstage at The Headies’ annual music award in a competition tagged ‘Headies 2015 Rookie Contest’.

The top five acts selected from the public nominations will be announced a week later, and voting will open for three weeks subsequently on the award platform’s website. Once voting is over, the act with the most votes will be announced as the winner and get to perform on the Awards night. The second and third runner-up will perform at one of The Headies Nominees Concerts.

“This is another once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for one talented up-and-coming act to perform on the big stage of The Headies in front of the biggest names in the industry as well as millions of Nigerians watching on TV. If you know a talented up-and-coming act whom you think deserves this opportunity, nominate them on the website and get voting,” said Ayo Animashaun, who founded the award.

To be eligible for the contest, the organisers further revealed, the nominated artiste must be a Nigerian citizen who has never been nominated for or won any award categories at The Headies, including nominations at this year’s event. He or she must also have at least one officially released single in the Nigerian music market with no album to their name released before February 2015.

Those wishing to nominate an act can do so at Hip Hop World magazine website.

Meanwhile, organisers of The Headies have announced that the 2015 ceremony will hold on Wednesday, December 30, at the Landmark Events Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The annual event, which recognises outstanding work by Nigerian music talents and rewards them in grand style, is expected to attract the cream of Nigeria’s entertainment industry, including superstar musicians, A-list Nollywood artistes, and media personalities.

“This year, only music released between July 2014 and June 2015 was eligible for nomination,” said Animashaun. He said the nominees can been viewed at the award’s website.
