By Onyewuchi Ojinnaka

The Nigerian Government on Friday made a U-turn over the order asking all account holders in financial institutions such as banks and Insurance companies in Nigeria  should fill a self-certification form to checkmate financial fraud and consequently, apologised to Nigerians for the misinformation.

The order was given on Thursday by the government, notwithstanding the possession of the Bank Verification Number (BVN) and the National Identification Number by account holders.

However, Nigerians reacted to the order, expressing  displeasure over the self-certification form request.

But in a tweet on Friday, the government apologised for the misinformation.

It tweeted, “We apologise for the misleading tweets (now deleted) that went up yesterday, regarding the completion of self-certification forms by Reportable Persons. The message contained in the @firsNigeria Notice does not apply to everybody. FIRS will issue appropriate clarification shortly.”
