Nigerian woman gets death threat for opposing conviction of Kano singer

The ArewaMeToo campaigner, Fakhuus Hashim, has received a death threat from one Lawal Gusau, for speaking against the death penalty handed down to a Kano singer, Yahaya Aminu Shariff, for blaspheming the Muslim Prophet Muhammed.

Hashim, born and raised a Muslim in the north, has consistently opposed the death sentence since it was pronounced in August.

“Nothing, and I mean nothing should ever warrant the killing of anyone for anything they’ve said. This is repulsive and regressive. Death sentencing for blasphemy are a human rights violation and the FG must act to stop the sentence from being carried out.

“The State that does not sentence former Boko Haram fighters who have killed and maimed thousands or at the very least have been accessory to massacres, have no bearing whatsoever on sentencing anyone to death on the grounds of what they’ve said,” she said.

Hashim made those comments on August 10. But Gusau said she has become an apostate, which some Muslim consider a capital crime.

“You and Falana can go to hell for all I care. You can come down to Nigeria and marry Falana to show the world you are a real apostate and a kafir.

“My last advice to you is to be careful with the way you go on attacking Islam and Muslims. If you think that UK is a sanctuary and protection to you, please ask your co-traveller and neighbour, Salman Rushdie. Am sure he will tell you that death is better than living like a hunter animals, always running and hiding. So better take my gentle advice and stop the recklessness or else you will soon regret both here in this life and hereafter,” he posted on Twitter.
