The new Abia State Commissioners have been forewarned that any ministry that under-performs would be scrapped or merged with performing ones as a way to give the electorates the best run for their money.
Sources said that the warning made it imperative for all the ministries and their Commissioners to work hand in glove with one another to bring about the expected transformation programme of the present administration.
Confirming this position during its maiden press briefing at Government House, Umuahia, the Information and Strategy Commissioner Bonnie Iwuoha said synergy among the various ministries was top on the agenda of the inaugural State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Ikpeazu.
He explained that owing to the determination to realise a smooth drive by motorists during the Yuletide, the council reconstituted the Finance and General Purposes Committee (F&GPC) and also ratified the report of the disbanded team.
Iwuoha, a former National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), who was flanked at the briefing by the Commissioner for Works Eziuche Ubani, Commissioner for Transport Lady Nnenna Obewu Onwuka and Chief Press Secretary to the Governor Godwin Adindu, said the report had to do with the on going road projects in the state.
He stressed the importance of the synergy among the commissioners and also the cooperation of the media to bring to the court of the public factual account of happenings in the state, assuring that there would be no hoarding of information of any kind.
Speaking also, Ubani, a two time member of the House of Representatives and journalist said government was doing everything possible to complete all the road projects so as to have free flow of traffic during the Christmas period.
Particularly, he said the portions of the major roads leading into Umuahia, the capital city and Aba, the commercial nerve centre would be handled expeditiously in the interest of motorists.
On her part, the Transport Commissioner and former Chairperson of Ohafia Local Government said government would not tolerate any unnecessary hike in fares by commercial drivers to the detriment of commuters and assured that programmes were being put in place by government to put smiles on the faces of Abians
Contributing, the commissioner for Works, Eziuche Ubani and his Transport counterpart, Mrs Onwuka promised to bring their individual professional touches to bear to move the state forward and promised to run an open door policy.
