According to him, aspiring female politicians should be women of substance and stand firm for what they believe in.

“Every Nigerian woman who wants to go into politics must be ready to play the game, be a woman of substance and stand firm.

“You should have value for yourself and don’t allow men to  toss you around in the same game of politics.

“In 1983, there was only one female senator, but today there are more than 30 female senators.

“That shows that women are getting more involved and stronger in politics, very soon am sure they will arrive.

“All they need to guide against is for them to respect themselves, then men will respect them, I am sure nobody is discriminating against them.”

He urged the male politicians to encourage the women to participate more in the governance processes, saying “it is the smart thing to do’’.

The elder statesman said it was high time Nigeria began to celebrate its past leaders, noting that majority of them were not duly recognised.

He advised women to start celebrating themselves as achievers, adding that no one would blow their trumpets for them if they refused to do so.

“Women must learn to start blowing their trumpets, if they don’t, no one will blow it for them.”
