Naira fall,COVID-19 to dominate today’s NEC

Nigeria’s vice president, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, would today August 20, preside over the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting via the internet.

Today’s NEC meeting would be the third since the COVID-19 restriction on large gathering.

The virtual meeting is expected to discuss the dwindling fortune of the naira and easing the COVID-19 restriction on businesses that are still under lockdown.  

The last meeting of NEC said it would hold further discussions with the Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19 (PTF) on reopening of the economy and schools.

Osinbajo is the chairman of NEC which, a body that meets monthly to deliberate on the coordination of economic planning and programmes of various levels of government.

Membership of NEC comprises the 36 state governors, Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Minister of Finance, Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Secretary to the Government of the Federation and other relevant government officials whose duties hinged on the economy.
