It is hoped that the duo of Lizzy Anjorin and Dayo Amusa, Yoruba actresses who have decided to try their hands on music especially hip hop, can cope with their new-found love.
Although Amusa’s interest in Afro hip hop dated back to 2001, she has been more active as an actress and movie producer until recently.
Last year, Amusa had premiered the music video for ‘Unforgivable’, the soundtrack for one of her movies starring Desmond Elliot and Mike Ezuruonye. She was very emotional as she sang the lyrics of the song.
Her latest work, ‘Aye Mi’, has been enjoying airplay. The single talks about her travails and experiences as an actress, as it addresses fame and the constant pressure it puts on celebrities living in a judgmental society.
As for Anjorin, her single, ‘Orombo’, which feature d Jhybo, talks about love. The video showed rich culture and heritage. Some of their counterparts in the English genre had delved into music, but abandoned it entirely. Genevieve Nnaji, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, Shan George and Lilian Bach readily come to mind.
However, Tonto Dikeh became an exception because despite the challenges she encountered, the ‘Poko’ crooner eventually got signed on to DB records owned by Dbanj.
