By Ishaya Ibrahim

A Nigerian female medical doctor, Bola Aseyan, has alleged that she was sexually and emotionally abused by her UK host, Dr Olufunmilayo Ogunsanya, for the period she was holidaying in his UK home.

The man, also a medical doctor based in the UK, and a social media influencer, has refuted the charge, alleging that the sex between them was mutually consented.

The chatter on who is right or wrong on the internet, has kept the topic a top trend on Twitter for two consecutive days.

“Your favourite influencer (Dr Funmilayo) has sexually and emotionally abused me for so long, and I’ve been hiding it. I didn’t want to say anything because I DESPERATELY didn’t want to be in the news for anything bad here. I kept telling myself it would be over soon. I cannot take it anymore!,” she said on June 29.

In a rebuttal, Dr Funmilayo claimed the sex was mutually consented the day she arrived UK after a bottle of red wine.

“So, the day she came we were in the kitchen at a point and then she saw a red wine in the fridge. She said, ‘oh this would be nice, may be we should try it together.’And I said okay that will be nice.

“So, I went to my room and I think she went to the living room or so, and at some point later, I messaged her to check she’s not bored and she said she’s not watching TV anyway. So, I said okay she can come over with the wine. And then she came with the wine and we had it together, and unfortunately, sex happened,” he said.

He also said after some days, while he was attending a course in London, he got a voice note from her claiming that she did not give her consent to the sex.

“I said are you trying to push this on me in a bid to clarify if she was insinuating rape or sexual abuse and she said in clear terms that no, she is not pushing for anything.

“I told her we both had alcohol, we were both drunk and we had sex after, how did I abuse you,” he said.

He claimed that in the duration of the four months she stayed in his house, they only had sex twice which was mutually consented, and then discontinued.

He said that she had to extend her stay in the UK because of the banned on travel due to the COVID-19 lockdown.

But Bola insisted that the sex was not consented.

“Your favorite online influencer also a medical doctor in the UK who always has an opinion on every topic on Twitter, he is morally upright on the Internet, yet does the exact opposite of what he preaches online, preaching against rape and doing the exact opposite in person,” she alleged.

She, however, did not give details of how the rape happened, claiming that she had reported to the incident to the UK police who advised her to withhold sharing further evidence on the social media.

Social media reactions is split on the issue.

@lifeofanike tweeted: “The fact is if this was another man, what will #drolufunmilayo say on this? He would nail the man to the cross. You knew the babe was manipulative yet u invited her to UK, she drank wine on your bed and you admitted she’s drunk but had sex with her. By HIS standards, he’s guilty.”

Segun Awosanya, popularly known as Segalink, tweeted that: “This is one case too many. It’s time to protect the men from criminal defamation by deranged souls and toxic individuals seeking whom to destroy in order to climb socially. This particular one should be a class action suit by victims of this same lady.#drolufunmilayo”

@holudaray argued: “You had your evil and greedy mission while leaving Nigeria to UK. Because things didn’t go as planned, the next thing is to defame #drolufunmilayo, you forgot his God doesn’t wear flip flop, so he can’t flop.”

@Deji_OoniAbj posited: “I know Dr Olufunmilayo won’t be able to say these again for life, let me say them,  (1) CONSENT TO DRINK ALCOHOL IS NOT A CONSENT FOR SEX (2) BEING IN YOUR HOUSE DOESN’T MEAN YOU BOTH SHOULD HAVE SEX.”

As the comments keep pouring, we may never know whether the event of that day was sex or rape.
