Kwara inaugurates COVID-19 recovery panel

A committee supported by the World Bank has been inaugurated in Kwara State to reduce the impact of coronavirus on residents, especially vulnerable groups and medium and small scale enterprises (MSEs).

The Action Recovery Economic Stimulus Programme for Results (CARES) committee was inaugurated in Ilorin on Tuesday by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

Members of the committee are Finance and Planning Commissioner/CARES Team Lead, Florence Oyeyemi; Enterprise Commissioner, Femi Agbaje; and Governor’s Agriculture Technical Assistant, Abdulqowiy Olododo;

Others are Governor’s Non-Governmental Affairs Senior Special Assistant, Oloruntoyosi Thomas; KWASSIP’s Anchor, Mohammed Brimah; Head of Irrigation/Water Resources, MARD, Busari Toyin Isiaka; and acting FADAMA State Project Coordinator, Adam Abdullahi.

AbdulRazaq, who was represented at the inauguration by Oyeyemi, urged the committee members to be diligent and dedicated in the programme meant to protect livelihoods.

CARES seeks to facilitate quick recovery of local economic activities through increasing cash transfers, food security and food supply chains for poor households, and enhance the capabilities of MSEs.

Nigeria CARES Programme is a World Bank-Assisted Programme for Results targeted at existing and newly vulnerable households, their food supply chains, and micro and small enterprises affected by COVID-19.
