Former vice president Atiku Abubakar has spoken to the family Uwaila Omozuwa on phone and consoled them for the loss of their daughter who was raped and killed in a church building.
But while Atiku was still mourning with the family for the loss of their daughter, a University of Benin undergraduate, he learned of Barakat’s tragedy.
“After speaking with the Omozuwa family, my attention was drawn to yet another rape and murder of another young lady, Barakat Bello, in Ibadan. As a father, I know what it is like to deal with such a loss. We are racing against time.
“It is crucial that the rapist(s) of Barakat and all other victims are speedily brought to justice to serve as a deterrent,” Atiku said via his twitter handle @atiku
There are similarities in the rape of Barakat and Uwaila.

Barakat Bello
Uwaila is 22-year-old microbiology student of the University of Benin. She was raped while reading inside the Redeemed Church in the school premises when a church security guard found her in a pool of her blood, according to her family.
She was rushed to hospital but died on Saturday afternoon.
Police have arrested some suspects after examining the fire extinguisher used in attacking Uwaila, extracted the finger prints on it and run it through the National Identity Card data base.
For Barakat, she was only 19 and a student of the Institute of Agriculture, Research and Training, Ibadan.
Barakat was attacked and killed while in her parents’ house in the Akinyele area of Ibadan on Monday, June 1.
Kasimu Elepo, her father, said he was not at home when the incident occurred. The deceased’s sister was also not in the house at the time the rapist(s) and assailant(s) visited their home and wrecked such tragedy.
According to him, the victim’s sister found Barakat’s body at the back of the house in a pool of her blood when she returned from Koranic lessons.
