COVID-19: Hunter kills commercial driver in Kwara

A commercial driver has been reportedly killed in Kwara State while heading for Ilorin, the state capital on Tuesday evening.

The dirver simply identified as Idowu was said to have been killed by a local hunter at Eyenkorin area on the outskirts of the capital city.

He was said to be returning from a trip to Ibadan in Oyo State when he suffered the fate some few kilometres to his destination.

It was learnt that the incident happened as he took an alternative route in the bush while avoiding the blockade on the main road ordered by the state government to check inter-state travelling that could aggravate community transmission of the COVID-19.

The hunter who reportedly mounted security on the bush route was alleged to have demanded that the driver should drop certain amount of money before he could be allowed passage.

It was alleged that when the driver refused to drop the money and insisted on passing through, the hunter shot him in the chest.

The hunter, whose name is simply mentioned as Sule reportedly took to his heels when some residents of the Eyenkorin community who heard about the killing made move to apprehend him.

Idowu who was said to have survived ghastly road accidents thrice before he was killed was said to have left behind a three-month old son, his wife and aged mother.

His remains have been reportedly deposited at the mortuary of the General Hospital in Ilorin as police commenced investigations into the incident.

The state police spokesman, Ajayi Okasanmi, who confirmed the incident said the police were still on the trail of the hunter but assured that all who may be culprits would be brought to book.
