Covenant University graduate wins Glo’s Miss NYSC pageant

A Covenant University Mass Communication graduate, Miss Brenda Evbodaghe has won the maiden edition of the Miss Bold and Beautiful pageant sponsored by Globacom, to make corps members’ stay at the NYSC Orientation Camp, Iyana Ipaja, Lagos memorable and fun filled.

Commenting on her victory, 21 year old Brenda Evbodaghe enthused “I feel so happy winning this contest. I never expected to emerge winner. It’s a very happy moment for me. This crown, I’m sure will spur me into giving my best during the service year. I will use this contest as a springboard to achieve my dream in the wider society.”

The event held over the weekend was well attended by corps members, NYSC and Glo officials while ace comedian, Gbenga Adeyinka, the first, thrilled the audience with witty wisecracks and anecdotes. Glo ambassador and iconic hip hop act, Burna Boy entertained the audience with his popular songs like “Check and Balance” and “Denge” which gingered the event and raised temperature.

 

Then came the ultimate moment of the night, the declaration of Miss Bold and Beautiful. All the young and dashing ladies pre-screened for the competition indeed had the potential to win. They had the endowments to lift the coveted crown, but only one winner must emerge. The contestants all took their turns on stage to sell their candidacy.

The contestants appeared on stage in three costumes: Full NYSC Corps regalia, evening gown and native wears. They danced in well-choreographed steps and later appeared on stage after the dance routines to answer a few questions from the anchors. Their poise, splendor, intellectual depth and elegance showcased Nigeria’s abundant talents.

 

Brenda, the Mass Communication graduate from Covenant University was declared winner by a unanimous decision from the judges comprising Glo ambassadors Bez, Ego Ogbaru and other NYSC Camp officials. She won an iPhone 6 with 4.5 Gb data and 5,000 worth of Glo Airtime. Iwuese Oluchi

 

Precious, a Business Administration graduate from Babcock University was first runner-up and won a Laptop, Glo Modem with 4.5 Gb data and 5,000 airtime, while Judith Nze, a Biomedical Science graduate from the University of Wolverhampton, England came third, winning a Samsung phone.

 

Earlier in the evening, Chuddy K, Nigerian hip hop sensation, got the crowd to go ‘Gaga Crazy’ when he performed his hit song, giving the crowd so much to relish. A youth corps member, Ifeanyi Solomon replicated the Micheal Jackson’s electrifying dance steps precisely like the late global music icon would have, sending the crowd into an ecstatic applause.

 

In an evening designed to keep the corps members constantly engaged with the Glo brand, confident members of the audience who believed in their dancing skills stepped up to partake in the dancing competition won by Chukwuma Udechukwu, a University of Amsterdam graduate.

 

In brief welcome remarks, Globacom’s Group Business Director, Mr. Kunle Akanmu urged the corps members to enjoy the evening and assured them that as a brand that believes passionately in Nigerian youth, Globacom would always stand by them and provide them with the platform to reach their fullest potentials.

 

The Lagos State NYSC director, Cyril Akhananhe, said he could not thank Globacom enough for the support the company has given youth corps members in Lagos State.

 

Barely one week ago, Globacom had sponsored the welcome party for corps members deployed to Lagos State and also donated a massive 100 KVA electricity generating set to the Lagos Orientation Camp.
