Kwara State government is planning to expand capacity of the state Infectious Disease Centre though the state is yet to record a case of Coronavirus currently spreading across the globe.
The state governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq, who disclosed the plan said the spread of the virus to the country meant that an extra efforts must be taken urgently to keep health of the populace from jeopardy.
He spoke when he visited the centre located within the premises of the state Specialist Hospital at Alagbado area of Ilorin for inspection.
The governor said the centre could only accommodate 15 patients but the government would soon increase the capacity to make it able to accommodate 100.
He thanked the Emir of Ilorin, Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari and the state branch of the Christians Association of Nigeria (CAN) for cooperating with government on measure to check spread of the virus to the state by suspending religious programmes that atreact gathering of a large number of people.
He also praised them for organising prayers for divine intervention over the outbreak of the virus.
Abdulrasaq said the state government would continue to employ measures that would ensure the state is safeguarded from the infection.
He said the people of the state should not be too relaxing because the state has not recorded a case of the virus but be watchful, careful and proactive.
