Ihedioha flags off Imo Security Summit Friday at Oguta

Governor Emeka Ihedioha will lead other security chiefs in Imo State on Friday to Oguta as the government holds a security summit on how to properly secure Imo.

The police, the army, para-military agencies, traditional rulers among others in the state are expected to make presentations.

No fewer than one thousand participants are expected at Oguta, home of the Deputy Governor of Imo State, Gerald Irona for the first Security Summit of Ohaji/Egbema and Oguta Local Government Areas of the state.

Special Adviser to the Governor of Imo State and Chairman of the Summit Planning Committee, Ray Nkemdirim disclosed this while inspecting the venue of the event, Thursday afternoon.

Nkemdirim said:  “the Summit is aimed at re-jigging the security architecture of the area, to tackle worrying security challenges.”

“The event is being put together by the state government, the two oil producing local government areas of Ohaji/Egbema/Oguta, as well as security agencies to create a forum for interaction with stakeholders on security issues in the area. The present administration inherited some major security challenges.

“We have recorded some successes in combating crime in the state. New security arrangements are being fine-tuned and we have decided to discuss with all the stakeholders, with a view to ensuring that citizens and the government are on the same page.

“The organizing committee is made up of representatives of all law enforcement agencies in the state. The Commissioner of Police, Director, SSS, Brigade Commander, Commandants of NDLEA and NSCDC are all involved and they will be speaking at the Summit.

“There will be sufficient time for citizens and critical stakeholders to speak at the meeting, since security is everybody’s business. The Governor of Imo State, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha is the Special Guest of Honour, while the Deputy Governor, Engr. Gerald Irona is the Chief Host.”

It would be recalled that  Irona recently inaugurated a Committee to organise the Summit, according ton a statement from Walter Duru, media aide to the deputy governor.
