Border Security: Customs Immigration, others assess operations after closure

Controller General of Nigeria Customs Service, Col. Ibrahim Ali (Rtd), his Immigration Service counterpart , Mohammed Babandede and Brigadier General Emmanuel Adamu Ndagi (Rtd), Coordinator from office of National Security Adviser Monday embarked on an on-the-spot assessment of joint border security operations starting from the North Central.

Confirming the assessment tour, spokesman for Nigeria Customs Service, Joseph Attah, said successes are being recorded from the joint exercise code-named, “Exercise Swift Response”.

Attah, who also doubles as spokesperson for the exercise, which involves the Armed Forces, police and the Department of State Service (DSS) said that the security chiefs are on tour to interact with the troops and keep abreast with the progress of the exercise.

In addition to earlier recorded seizures of smuggled items and arrests of illegal immigrants, Attah said more had been achieved.

As press time, Attah said a comprehensive list of arrests and seizures was being compiled and promised availing journalists of it soon.

The exercise which started about a fortnight ago has resulted to closer monitoring of travelers and traders across the borders of four geopolitical zones of the country

The exercise is presently ongoing at the borders of the South West, South South, North Central and North West parts of the country.
