A Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Akure, Friday, August 16, has remanded in Olokuta prison, Lance Corporal Sunday Awolola for alleged rape of a 300 level student of Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko, AAUA.
Chief Magistrate Mayowa Olanipekun who ordered his remand following the application by the prosecutor, Inspector Adeoye Adesegun also directed that the case file be transferred to the office of director of public prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.
Kayode Ikotun, the soldier’s counsel had argued that the suspect should be granted bail on health grounds, saying that his health was deteriorating since his arrest.
After the argument, the Magistrate ordered the soldier to be remanded at Olokuta prison and adjourned the case till the 15th of November for hearing.
Awolola was docked on a two count charge including having unlawful carnal knowledge of his victim on the 31st of July 2019 at military check point at Ikare Akoko.
The offence according to the charge sheet is punishable under section 358 of the criminal code cap 37 volume 1 of the Ondo State of Nigeria.
