NWFL Week Two matches hold today

-

All the Week Two matches of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) earlier slated to hold on Saturday, May 9 will now take place today.

According to the League Secretary, Isaac Ajisafe, the shift in date was to enable the teams support the national women senior team, the Super Falcons, in its Olympic qualifying match against its counterpart from Mali at the National Stadium, Abuja.

The Super Falcons mauled the Malians 8-0 last month in Abuja, but the League scribe said the team needs the support and prayers of all Nigerians at this point.

He also said the League body has received the approval of the NFF executive board to include two more teams in the Premier League, to make it an even number.

He said: “The NFF has approved the inclusion of two women league clubs, City Of David (COD) United Ladies FC of Lagos and Capital City Doves FC of Abuja, to the women premier league clubs to make an even number of 16 teams for the 2015 league season, that would be shared eight in each of the groups.”

He went further to reveal that the women league body has instituted a monthly award for players that excelled in each of the months.

“The award is expected to begin this month, which is May. It would be for the best goalkeeper of the month, and the highest goal-scorer.

“At the end of the season, we will hold a general award ceremony that will be all-embracing. This is in a way to encourage excellence in the League and bring the best out of our players,” said he.

The League body is ever ready to partner any private individual or organisation that would want to buy into the programme, he added.
