The Niger State House of Assembly members have unanimously resolved to swear-in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) elected member representing Agaie, Yahaya Abdullahi, in its next sitting.
Speaker of the Assembly, Abdullahi Bawa Wuse, made the disclosure during a press briefing at the Assembly complex in Minna on Friday.
He said that the decision was after due consultation, following the crisis that broke out at Agaie council over alleged rumour that the house was refusing to swear-in the member.
It would be recalled that the people of Agaie in the state and members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) went on protest last week on why the member was not sworn in by the Speaker after their last sitting.
Describing the protest in Agaie, he said, “To me this is quiet unfortunate and uncivilized because I expect that if there is anything, they should get back to us instead of going to ventilate their minds that way. They can go back to the court and tell the court that the House has refused to swear in the Agaie member.”
Wuse explained that after coming to the leadership of the house on the issue and were told to exercise a little patience that it would be resolved, they wouldn’t have gone on protest.
According to him, “House of Assembly is convinced beyond no reasonable doubt to go ahead unanimously to swear in the Agaie elected member. I am very concerned about getting this issue over.”
The speaker stated that to ensure that due process was followed by the assembly on the matter, it was referred to the Ministry of Justice for legal advice and got the nod for the member to be sworn in. Wuse, however, lamented that the ongoing renovation of the entire Assembly complex has slowed down the activities of the house, but assured that members were committed to serving the people of the state.
