We demanded $30m ransom for Buhari district head’s release – suspect

-

Suspected kidnappers of the District Head of Daura in Katsina State, Alhaji Musa Umar, have confessed to demanding $30 million for the traditional ruler’s release.

They, however, regretted that the ransom was not paid before their eventual arrest by special police forces drawn from the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Intelligence Response Team (IRT), Special Tactical Squad (STS), as well as Operation Puff Adder.

It will be recalled that the Daura monarch, who is President Muhammadu Buhari’s in-law, was  released on July 2, exactly two months after his abduction.

The Police Monday presented 13 of the suspects arrested in connection with the abduction of the Magajin Daura.

Apart from the suspected abductors of Alhaji Umar, the police also presented 27 other suspects linked to cases of kidnapping, armed banditry, cattle rustling, and gun-running in parts of the country.

Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), DCP Frank Mba, who paraded the suspects to journalists at the premises of the STS in Abuja, the Force had established that crimes hardly took place without collaborators from within the location.
