The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) has urged the Federal government to encourage local investors irrespective of the sector.

The newly elected President of TUC, Quadri Olaleye, made the appeal in Lagos while speaking with newsmen.

He said: “When foreigners undertake jobs that our children can do well, we end up creating an army of youth for militancy, terrorism,  prostitution, and other social vices.”

He also disclosed that the aviation industry was plagued with a number of factors, stressing that the federal government must realize that when a car develops a fault while driving, ‘you can park to fix it,’ which is not the case with the aviation industry.

He pointed out that most successful foreign airlines enjoy the support of their government, adding that with the continuous opening of major airports to foreign airlines, capital flight and joblessness will be  inevitable.

The president, who commended the federal government for signing the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA), expressed concern on the power sector,  saying that the energy sector has to be improved upon to boost productivity and lower cost of production, and also source raw materials locally.

“We must make free trade agreement serve our interest,” he said.
