Former United States President Barack Obama is celebrating his first daughter, Malia, who turns 21 years Thursday, July 4.

The former president said in a Twitter message that the day is significant because it marks two events in his life – the Independence of the United States and the birth of his daughter.
Malia and younger sister, Sasha, were barely teenagers when their father won the presidency in 2008. They were poster children for many American children.
The social media community is celebrating Malia for largely staying out of scandals.
