Lagos roads are about to witness free flow of traffic. The governor of the state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has increased the allowance of staff of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LATSMA) by 100 per cent.
The news broke on Friday, June 14, by the Governor’s Deputy Chief Press Secretary, Gboyega Akosile. He said the increase comes into effect from July 1.
“This it to boost their working ability in reducing the traffic in Lagos State,” Akosile said.
According to Sanwo-Olu, the increase in the allowance is to fulfill the promise he made on improving the transportation system and reduce the traffic gridlock in Lagos, in addition to paying them well enough to shun corruption.
He admonished LASTMA officials to treat offenders with respect.
He made the remark at Oshodi when he visited the head office of the traffic agency.
Just last week, Sanwo-Olu extended the work hours of LASTMA officials. He asked them to close by 11 pm as against the 9pm when most of them desert the roads.
