NECO procures 20 vans, 8, 000 biometric machines to enhance operations

-

National Examination Council (NECO) has procured 20 single Cabin Toyota Hilux vans and biometrics capturing machines to enhance its operations especially in the areas of logistics and the overall security of its examination materials.

Board Chairman of NECO, Dr. Abubarkar Sadiq, disclosed this at the inauguration of the 20 pick-up vans and 8, 000 units of Biometric Capture machines.

He said that the facilities were procured to guarantee hitch-free conduct of its examinations.

Abubarkar Sadiq said that issues of mobility during the last NECO examinations became so pathetic that the Council had to go to the INEC to borrow 32 vans to enable it move both sensitive and non-sensitive materials during examinations.

“Due to lack of enough vehicles during the last exams, we had to go to INEC and begged that they release 32 of their vehicles for us. Because of this, we are sometimes being forced to change the date of our examinations even after fixing it,” he said.

With the rising number of candidates involved in examinations malpractices, including impersonation, Sadiq said that such ill trends would soon be over with the installation of the Biometric data capturing devices.

The NECO chairman told the gathering at the councils’ headquarters, along Minna-Bida that, “The Certificate forgery allegations against Senator Adeleke has taught us a lesson and that is why we in NECO try to move with trends and not wait to witness such ugly incidents”.

Sadiq also pointed out that everything was moving with global trends and NECO would not want to be left behind in continuously upgrading its facilities on ICT to meet the ever evolving examination cheating trends by candidates writing NECO examinations.
