For calling off a live television interview, the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, has incurred the wrath of Nigerians who saw the cancellation as a ploy to dodge sensitive issues.

Osinbajo was billed to appear on a youth-friendly chat show, Rubbin’ Minds on Channels Television hosted by Ebuka Obi-Uchendu on Sunday but did not.

A tweet from an aide to Osinbajo, Laolu Akande, said: “the exigencies of campaign timing make it impossible for VP to appear as scheduled.”

But Nigerians on social media refused to be placated and said he deliberately missed the programme because he was away sharing money and bribing senators not to appear on plenary on Tuesday to deliberate on the suspension of former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen by President Buhari.

Many prepared and came with placards bearing various inscriptions with which they intended to use to draw the Vice President’s attention to the issue of Onnoghen’s suspension.

Many saw the move as strategic in order to avoid him answering questions bordering on Onnoghen’s, removal having criticized the action weeks ago.
