Assistant Comptroller General of Customs and Zonal Coordinator for Zone A (South West), Aminu Dahiru, has told officers of Ondo/Ekiti Command that era of influencing promotions and postings in the service is gone.
Dahiru said this while addressing a parade of officers and men, where he urged them to be vigilant and more committed to the core responsibility of duty collection, watching over seized goods and facilitating trade.
The ACG advised that Customs officers should see their calling as a position of trust.
“Just as we are aware that people are in Apapa and Tincan, we know you are here. No posting is special. Anyone can be posted anywhere at anytime as management deems fit.
“Put in your best always. Some other officers under our zone in places like Federal Operations Unit have received letters of commendation for outstanding performances.
“Don’t lower your guard of vigilance at all times. We as a service,are doing well to contribute to national security. Just recently, our operatives in Zone C made seizure of container carrying military wares.
“We know the intent behind such importations cannot be for the good of all.
“Note that no released container is totally out of Customs control. A consignment may have left the ports with unlawful content as a result of negligence on the part of Officers. Same container may very likely be intercepted, searched and seized by vigilant and dedicated officers of same service.
“Our jobs as Customs officers is a position of trust. Customs is a function reserved for nobles who contribute to the wealth of the state. Please don’t betray the trust.
Dahiru, who was in Akure as part of a midyear tour of formations and commands under his watch, reiterated Customs management unrelenting drive to improve on the welfare and logistics support for Customs officers.
