…Inflict injury on officer

Persons identified as smugglers have attacked a Nigeria Customs Service patrol base in Papalanto area of Ogun State, setting it ablaze and inflicting lif- threatening injuries on a Customs officer.

Abdullahi Maiwada, the spokesperson for Ogun Customs Command, stated that   the criminals abducted the injured officer before using machetes to injure him.

He added that the wounded officer, identified as Abdullahi Mohammed Kuso, was later rescued by other operatives of the service.

“They succeeded in abducting and inflicting life threatening injury to an Inspector of Customs Abdullahi Mohammad Kuso attached to NCS Ogun Command. They further set ablaze Customs patrol base at Papalanto close Lafarge Cement Company.

“Full scale investigation is ongoing to fish out those who perpetuated this barbaric, cruel and inhumane aggression.

“We therefore sound a note of warning to smugglers that Nigeria Customs Service Ogun Command will not relent in bringing to book economic saboteurs/criminals who often violently engage officers at various approved duty post, to the extent of inflicting injuries on officers, destroying Government properties, and constituting nuisance to the society” Ogun Customs operatives have been facing series of attacks from persons suspected to be smugglers. Last year, an officer had his limbs almost chopped off by suspected smugglers preventing the seizure of a smuggled Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) in the bushes. The convoy of a former Controller of the command was also attacked earlier this year by suspected smugglers ostensibly protesting customs onslaught against their anti economic activities
