Bida School of Nursing gets accreditation 42 years after

Full accreditation has been granted to the three colleges of nursing sciences in the three senatorial zones of Niger State.

The state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Jibrin Mustapha, disclosed this while briefing the journalists on the state of the health sector at Government House, Minna.

The Commissioner disclosed this through the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Muhammad Makusidi.

He said that the 42-year-old School of Nursing in Bida and the School of Midwifery, Minna had been granted full accreditation for the first time since their establishment.

Also he said that the newly established College of Nursing Sciences, Kontagora had been accredited, adding that the accreditation has also brought about an increase in the number of students to be admitted into the schools.

The commissioner said accrediting the state-owned health facilities would improve the availability of manpower in healthcare delivery facilities across the state.

He further disclosed that Bida School of Nursing had been chosen to be among the six schools in Nigeria to pilot the HND programme for nurses, while that of Minna is among those schools to handle special training for special students.

Admission forms for the 2018/2019 academic session, he said, are already on sale in the three colleges, adding that the interventions include, recruitment of professionals as tutors in nursing and midwifery in addition to procuring instructional materials.
