Residents of Lagos have slammed the state government for ‘putting the state on lock down’ over President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit to commission a Bus Terminal in the Ikeja area of the state.

TheNiche visited a number of places on Thursday and witnessed chaotic scenes in most of the places as traffic was diverted from major routes. This created gridlocks on other major routes.

Many commuters resorted to trekking to their various destinations as a result of the ‘lock down’.

Those who spoke with TheNiche expressed displeasure with the way the state has handled the situation.

Olawunmi Bamidele, a hairstylist lamented that she had to trek for several hours on Wednesday because, according to her, the chaos started Wednesday night.

“When it was announced on Tuesday that Thursday had been declared a holiday in Lagos, I became apprehensive because I knew what Lagos would be like”, Bamildele said.

Bamidele said she lives in one of the places where traffic has been diverted and did not know until she left her home on Thursday.

“There was no proper awareness created as to which routes would be affected with the diversion”, she said.

“You don’t decide to declare a holiday in 48 hours and not experience the kind of chaos we have on our hands right now”, Bright Ovusu, an accountant told TheNiche. “These things are announced much earlier so people can make preparations”. Ovusu said.

Buhari is on a two-day visit to Lagos to commission an ultra-modern Bus terminal built by Lagos State government and to attend the 10th Bola Tinubu Colloquium.
