The Vice Chairman, Ibru Group, Olorugun Oskar Ibru, has advised tank farm owners to support the ongoing palliative works at the Ibru Jetty otherwise vessels calling at the private jetty would be stopped from berthing and discharging of petroleum products.
Recall that a group of tank farm operators under the aegis of Committee of Directors (COD), Ibru Complex Ibafon, last week commenced palliative works along the Sunrise Coconut axis of Apapa Oshodi expressway Lagos.
At the flag-off of the palliative works held last Thursday, Ibru noted that operators who are yet to key into the project may be sanctioned as, according to him, the dilapidated state of the access road has negatively affected supply of petrol products to other parts of the country.
Ibru who also doubles as the president of the COD maintained that the bad roads in Apapa and it’s environs create bottlenecks along Apapa-Oshodi expressway.
“We have a system where we don’t force anybody to do what they don’t want to do. That is why I decided to start the project immediately,” he said.
“I believe when they see the project is up and running, it will encourage them to contribute as requested.
“On the other hand, if they don’t, I will have to ask them not to come to my jetty anymore because the jetty is also getting some attention,” Ibru said.
He criticised the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) for not living to its responsibility as regards dredging of the channel. He said private jetty owners pay dues without getting any service from the NPA.
“We want to start dredging to make things easier for everybody. I am not asking for any contribution from anybody. We are doing it on our own expense because NPA refused to help us.
“They have dredgers and the port actually belongs to them. Though, it is a private jetty but we pay dues to NPA. For that, I think they should be able to help us,” Ibru stated.
